VEFA Gallery is proud to present Altered Familiar, a group exhibition exploring how recognizable images, objects, and symbols transform through memory, instinct, beauty, fantasy, and desire.
Anchored by Maïté Côté’s monumental teddy bear paintings, the exhibition begins with the innocence of childhood and follows its transformation into a broader world of altered forms. As visitors move through the gallery, familiar images begin to shift: toys become sculptural objects, butterflies become symbols of metamorphosis, the body becomes a site of beauty and psychological tension, and surreal landscapes open into dreamlike and mystical spaces.
Featuring works by Craola, Maïté Côté, Michael Dargas, Risk Rock, Alexandra Manukyan, Josh Mayhem, Sona Mirzaei, Breegan Cummings, Ksenya Verse, and Rino Gonzalez, Altered Familiar brings together a dynamic range of contemporary artists working across hyperrealism, surrealism, pop imagery, abstraction, toy culture, and magical realism. Each artist contributes to a collective dialogue about transformation, identity, materiality, and the familiar made strange.
Join us for the opening reception on June 6 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at VEFA Gallery for an evening of art, conversation, and discovery.
Original works and select editions will be available for acquisition. To request the available works list, schedule a private collector preview, or inquire about a specific artist, please contact VEFA Gallery directly.
